According to Globo, a woman in Brazilian has made headlines after her newly born twins tested positive for different bio-dads in a DNA test.
The unusual situation is called heteropaternal superfecundation. It happens when a second ova discharged during the same menstrual cycle is fertilized by the sperm cells of another man in a different sexual encounter.
According to the 19-year-old mother, she birthed the twins nine months after she slept with two men on the same day. She carried out the tests to be sure of the father of the kids but the test results surprised her.
She said: “I remembered that I had had sex with another man and called him to take the test, which was positive.
“I was surprised by the results. I didn’t know this could happen. They are very identical.”
While confirming the possibility of the case, medical practitioner Tulio Franco said: “It is possible to happen when two eggs from the same mother are fertilized by different men.
“The babies share the mother’s genetic material, but they grow in different placentas.”
