WestJet has cancelled flights ahead of a possible strike by its mechanics’ union.
In a statement. The airline says the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association has served them another notice of strike action.
WestJet says as a result of the notice, it has proactively cancelled 25 flights between Thursday and Friday, affecting around 3,300 customers.
This came at a time when the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association is accusing WestJet of suing it without telling its negotiators, who are collaborating with the airline on working out a new collective bargaining deal.
According to the union, WestJet’s statement about a strike putting the airline and travellers in peril is “inflammatory” and it has called on WestJet to spend more negotiating with union representatives.
Union members voted en masse to reject a tentative deal earlier in June and have opposed the request of WestJet for arbitration.
