WAEC releases Nov/Dec WASSCE results

The West Africa Examinations Council on Tuesday released the results of the 2017 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination for private candidates.
According to WAEC, 34,664 candidates obtained a minimum of credits in five subjects and above including English language and General Mathematics. The figure represents 26.01% of the 133,223 candidates that sat for the examinations in Nigeria.The percentage of candidates in this category in the WASSCE for private candidates in 2015 and 2016 was 28.59% and 38.50%, respectively.
The head of the Nigeria National office of the WAEC, Mr. Olu Adenipekun, made the announcement at a press conference which was also used to announce the 55th annual meeting of the council’s  Nigeria National Committee holding in Katsina.
Adenipekun said that the WASSCE for private candidates, 2017 was conducted in all the five member countries of WAEC, from August 15 to October 4, 2017.
He said, “A total of 135,945, candidates registered for the examination, out of which 133,223, candidates sat the examination. Of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, 67,279 were male and 65,944 were female, representing 50.50% and 49.50 %  respectively.
“Out of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, 131, 485 candidates  representing 98.70% have their results fully processed and released, while 1, 738 candidates, representing 1.30% have a few of their subjects still being processed due to errors traceable to the candidates in the course of registration or writing the examination. Such errors are being corrected by the council to enable the affected candidates get their results fully processed and released subsequently.
“Of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, 111, 763 candidates, representing 85.89% obtained credits and above in two subjects; 98, 506 candidates, representing 73.94% obtained credits and above in three subjects; 83,256 candidates, representing 62. 49% obtained credits and above in four subjects; 65, 483 candidates, representing 49.15%obtained credits and above in five subjects; 46,824 candidates, representing 35.14% obtained credits and above in six.
“A total of 34, 664 candidates, representing 26.01%, obtained the minimum of credits in five subjects and above, including English language and General Mathematics. The percentage of candidates in this category in the WASSCE for private candidates in  2015 and 2016 was 28.595 and 38.50%, respectively.
“The results of 14,756 candidates , representing 11.07% of the total candidature for the examination are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice. The cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate committee of the council in due course for consideration. The Committee’s decisions will be communicated to the affected candidates. Candidates who sat for the examination are now free to check the details of their performance on the Council’s results website: www.waecdirect.org”.
