23-year-old Super Eagles and Napoli forward, Victor James Osimhen has broken the record of being the highest Nigerian scorer in the history of the Italian Serie A.
The Nigerian international’s 8th goal of the season against Atalanta on November 5th took his career league tally to 32 goals in just 60 games.
It should be noted that Benevento striker, Simy Nwankwo was the previous holder of the record with 31 goals in 101 games while former Super Eagles and Inter Milan forward, Obafemi Martins is the third-highest Nigerian scorer in the history of the Italian topflight with 28 goals.

Since returning from a muscle injury on October 16th against Bologna, Osimhen has been in good form, scoring in four straight league games including his first club hat-trick against Sassuolo on October 29th.
Recall that Osimhen joined Napoli from French Ligue one side Lille for a club-record 75 million euros in the 2020/2021 season.
Since his big-money move to Italy, Osimhen has been steadily building his reputation as one of the most prolific young strikers in Europe.
The goal poacher scored 10 goals in 24 games in his debut campaign before following it up with 14 goals in 27 appearances in his second season.
Remarkably, he has scored 37 goals in 74 games in all competitions for Napoli while recording 11 assists.
Born in Nigeria, Osimhen began his senior career in Germany at VfL Wolfsburg in 2017. Following a season and a half at the club, he moved to Belgian side Charleroi on loan in 2018–19, before moving to France at Lille.
In 2020, Osimhen transferred to Serie A club Napoli for a club-record fee of €70 million. He won the Serie A Best Young Player award in the 2021–22 season.
Osimhen won the Golden Boot award at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup, which Nigeria won. He made his senior international debut in June 2017 and played at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
