The United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA) has alerted Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) regarding potential aviation safety violations by Air Peace. This comes just three months after the Nigerian airline began its Lagos-London route.
The UK CAA received two mandatory occurrence reports related to Air Peace, which it subsequently forwarded to the NCAA. The complaints were outlined in a letter titled “United Kingdom SAFA Ramp Inspection Report” with reference number CAA-UK-2024-0217 and “NATS Management System Safety Report.”
In response, the NCAA has requested clarification from Air Peace. The letter from the NCAA, reference number NCAA/DOLTS/APL/Vol.11/03624, was titled “United Kingdom SAFA Ramp Inspection Report” and dated May 14, 2024. It was signed by the NCAA General Manager of Operations, Capt. O.O. Lawani.
The NCAA highlighted that the UK CAA raised concerns about the lack of operational approval for the Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) functions, which are crucial for the safe operation of the aircraft. Additionally, the UK CAA noted the absence of a mounting device for the EFB and no charging points or backup batteries. The flight captain reportedly admitted to using an EFB for navigational purposes without the necessary approvals.
Air Peace recently launched its services to London Gatwick from Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport under the Bilateral Air Services Agreement between Nigeria and the UK.
Efforts to reach Air Peace’s spokesperson, Stanley Olisa, were unsuccessful. During a phone call, Olisa did not respond to questions about the issue before ending the call. A follow-up text message also went unanswered at the time of reporting.
