The Prime Minister of United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, has warned that the Conservatives will face a “hard night” at the local elections, which will take place today.
The elections are Sunak’s first major electoral test since he became the Prime Minister over six months ago, and the results will give an indication as to whether Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer could be on course for No 10.
While speaking at a recent Onward think tank event, Sunak said his administration had laboured to improve the economy and move away from the “box set drama” of what happened before his reign, in what looked to be a reference to predecessors Boris Johnson and Liz Truss.

The local elections will be a tough electoral test for the Conservatives, as some analysts predicted that the party could lose many seats. Also, the elections are viewed as a test of the perception of the public of the way the government has handled the pandemic and its economic recovery plan.
If the Conservatives do not do well, Sunak’s position as Prime Minister could be weakened further with increased pressure on him to deliver on his promises of economic recovery and social reform.
