A 17-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy were airlifted to Winnipeg after sustaining injuries in an apartment fire that occurred in Tataskweyak Cree Nation in Manitoba. The incident left 49 people displaced.
According to Tataskweyak Cree Nation Chief Taralee Beardy, the fire began around 1:30 pm at an eight-unit apartment that housed ten families.

She said: “It was quite shocking and devastating. The families that were affected were quite traumatized, especially the families with the injured individuals.”
Fire crews from York Factory First Nation and Gillam, Manitoba quenched the fire before it could spread to neighbouring apartments. The cause of the fire has not been revealed.
