Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has condemned the killing of two traditional rulers in Ekiti State.
Recall that gunmen suspected to be herdsmen murdered the Onimojo of Imojo-Ekiti, Oba (Professor) Samuel Olushola and the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti, Oba David Ogunsakin.
The incident occurred between Oke-Ako and Ipao-Ekiti in Ajoni Local Government Area of Ekiti State on January 29, 2024, while the victims were coming back from a security meeting in Ikole LGA.
In a statement issued by his media team recently, the Sultan, who is also the Chairman of the National Traditional Rulers Council of Nigeria (NTRCN), described the killing of the two monarchs as “extremely painful and very unfortunate
He said late Onimojo was an important monarch in the entourage of Attah of Aiyede, Oba AbdulMumini Adebayo Orishagbemi when he visited him in Sokoto.
He made it known that the monarch was also on the ground to be part of his rousing reception when he made his return visit to Aiyede Kingdom, Ekiti State.
He urged the Inspector General of Police and heads of other important security agencies in Nigeria to go after the killers and make them face the full wrath of the law.
He said: “The police should take its anti-crime battle to these criminals now, wherever they are, whoever they are and ensure that no matter their status and stature in the society, they should not be spared and must be brought to justice, while efforts must be made to henceforth prevent a repeat of such dastardly act before it happens in the future.”
He extended his condolences to the Ekiti State government, the Attah of Aiyede Kingdom, the immediate families of the slain Onimojo, Elesun and the people of their respective towns and prayed that Allah would grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.
