The South African Football Association has permitted the women’s national football team, ‘Banyana Banyana’ to participate in a football tournament in Turkey despite the recent earthquake that killed thousands.
The team that travelled to Antalya, Turkey comprises 16 local-based and seven overseas-based players.
The South African team will start their Turkish Women’s Cup account by slugging it out with Uzbekistan on Saturday.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) said it made a wide consultation before allowing Banyana Banyana to travel to Turkey.
Also, the world football governing body, FIFA, gave the go-ahead to the tournament in a letter sent to all the participants. The participating teams are South Africa, Estonia, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Hong Kong, Jordan, North Macedonia, Slovenia, Uzbekistan and Zambia.
