The Teranga Lions of Senegal have won the African cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time after defeating Egypt in the final of the 2021 tournament in Cameroon.

Sadio Mane of Liverpool outshined his teammate Mohamed Salah in the game, as he scored the winning penalty during the shootout to give Senegal the victory.
The game entered into penalty shootouts after both teams played out a goalless draw for 120 minutes, with Mane losing a seventh-minute penalty kick.
Senegal won the penalty shootouts 4-2 as Edouard Mendy denied Mohanad Lasheen to offer Mane the chance to seal the victory in Yaounde’s Olembe Stadium.

Previously, the Terenga Lions had lost two Nations Cup finals -in 2002 and 2019- but successfully won their maiden continental title in Cameroon.
