A Russian court has banned Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, over alleged “extremist activities.”

However, a platform under the Meta group, WhatsApp, was not affected by the court ruling.
What the ruling means is that activities of the company in Russia have been termed illegal.
Also, Russia has plans to designate Meta as an “extremist organization” after the company decided to permit some calls for violence against Russian soldiers that are involved in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.

An extremist designation in Russia automatically bans any commercial activity or displaying the symbols of the affected brand.
However, Meta has not commented on the matter.
