A Republican senator has urged the United States President, Donald Trump, to accept defeat in the recent US presidential election and commemce the transition process. The senator however condemned Trump campaign’s “unprecedented” attempt to overturn Joe Biden’s victory.
While urging the President, Alaska’s Lisa Murkowski tweeted that Biden had defeated Trump fairly and told the President it was time he gave up his legal team’s efforts to stay in power.
She tweeted: “As states wrap up the 2020 election and certify the results, it is incumbent upon all of us to ensure that we respect the integrity of the election process and uphold Americas’ faith in our electoral system,” she tweeted.
“Each state has worked to ensure a free and fair elections process. President Trump has had the opportunity to litigate his claims, and the courts have found them without merit.”
Also, Murkowski took a shot at the efforts of the President to influence state Republicans to shun election results and favour his re-election.
She tweeted: “A pressure campaign on state legislators to influence the electoral outcome is not only unprecedented but inconsistent with our democratic process.
“It is time to begin the full and formal transition process”
