The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has suspended the Senior Pastor of the City of David Parish, Idowu Iluyomade.
The decision to suspend Iluyomade, who also heads the Apapa Family of the church’s annex, was made after the elaborate 60th birthday celebration of his wife, Siju.
According to a source who spoke with Church Times, the pastor received his suspension letter over the weekend and was replaced by Pastor Charles Kpandei of the church’s Resurrection Parish Region 11 with immediate effect.
The source revealed further that Iluyomade was suspended for three months by the Governing Council of the church after a panel was constituted to investigate the allegations against him and the parish.
Also, a top pastor in the church told Church Times that the decision to suspend Iluyomade was a response to the general outcry against the lavish birthday party of his wife not long after the death of the then Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe.
Iluyomade has been making the headlines after the 60th birthday party of his wife, Siji.
A lot of people felt the birthday, which was celebrated around a week after the death of Wigwe in a helicopter crash in the US, came at the wrong time. Wigwe had been a great asset to the church before his death but the birthday party meant the church had no emotional attachment to him.
When his suspension ends, he will resume at the church’s headquarters, not the City of David.
