A Police Service officer in Edmonton has been charged with sexual assault.
The police watchdog in Alberta, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), disclosed that the alleged assault occurred on January 20 when the service officer was off duty.
ASIRT in a release disclosed that the man knows the woman and committed a sexual assault during an encounter.
Investigators sent their findings to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service which discovered the evidence met their standard for prosecution.
According to the release, Const. Samuel Sanson was nabbed recently and charged with one count of sexual assault.
Sanson has since been released and he is set to appear in provincial court of Edmonton on March 23.
