Police have announced that they are investigating claims that two centres in Montreal are being used as “police stations” supported by the Chinese government to intimidate or harass Canadians of Chinese descent.
The investigation adds to the existing allegations of China interfering in Canadian internal affairs, including Canada’s claims that China tried to manoeuvre the last two elections in the country. China has denied these allegations.

According to a statement from the Quebec-based Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the safety of people living in Canada may be threatened by these foreign state-backed criminal activities.
After a report by the human rights group Safeguard Defenders, based in Europe, which detailed the presence of dozens of Chinese police “service stations” in major cities around the world, many countries carried out similar investigations.
