Former Manchester United player Paul Pogba is facing a potential four-year suspension after his testosterone B sample returned a positive result.
The French international has not featured for Juventus since being banned following the discovery of his positive testosterone test. Pogba underwent a random drug test after being an unused substitute in Juventus’ 3-0 victory over Udinese on August 20.
Reports suggest that Juventus is contemplating suspending the 30-year-old’s salary if official proceedings against him commence, and they may even terminate his contract if he is handed a suspension.
In cases like Pogba’s, a four-year suspension represents the most severe penalty, with the possibility of an extension to a two-year ban if it can be proven that the player intentionally used a prohibited substance.
Pogba is currently under contract with Juventus until the summer of 2025, having returned to the club as a free agent in 2022 after spending six years at Manchester United.
Under the terms of his contract, Pogba is set to earn €7 million (£6 million/$7 million) annually, but this deal could be in jeopardy if he is found guilty of doping charges during a sports trial and subsequently faces a lengthy suspension.
Pogba’s representative, Rafaela Pimenta, commented, “We are waiting for the counter-analysis, and until then, we can’t say anything. The certain thing is that Paul Pogba never wanted to break the rules.”
This revelation adds to a series of setbacks for Pogba, who has been plagued by injuries since his return to Juventus from Manchester United just over a year ago.
He missed France’s World Cup campaign last year due to a knee injury and featured in only six Serie A matches for Juventus during the previous season.
Pogba has yet to start a game this season but has made two substitute appearances, the most recent being in a 2-0 victory over Empoli.
