The National Judicial Council (NJC) has imposed a one-year suspension without pay on three judicial officers, including a Justice of the Court of Appeal, over various acts of judicial misconduct.
The disciplinary measures were part of key decisions made during the NJC’s 108th meeting, held on April 29 and 30, 2025, and chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

In a recent statement issued by the NJC’s Deputy Director of Information, Kemi Ogedengbe, the Council announced that Justice Jane E. Inyang of the Court of Appeal, Uyo Division, was found guilty of violating Rule 3(5) of the Revised Code of Conduct for Judicial Officers.
The Council noted that Justice Inyang had issued improper ex parte orders for the sale of a petrol station and other businesses belonging to Udeme Esset during interlocutory proceedings, while presiding over Suit No. FHC/UY/CS/46/2023 at the Federal High Court, Uyo, before her elevation.
Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, was also suspended for one year without pay. Furthermore, he was placed on the Council’s Watch List and barred from elevation for five years. The NJC stated that the sanctions followed a complaint relating to Charge No. FHC/ABJ/CR/184/2021, in which Justice Ekwo delivered a ruling on a pending application without first hearing from the parties involved.
