Abuja Federal High Court has declined a request for an order to shift the 2023 Census, which was scheduled to take place between May 3 and May 5. The court’s decision was made by Justice Inyang Ekwo, who did not grant the application but asked the applicant, Omotuyi Ademola, to put the defendant, the National Population Commission (NPC), on notice.
In his ex parte application, the applicant stated that the NPC lacked effective preparation and adequate publicity needed to conduct a credible, effective and constitutional census in the country. As a result, he requested for a declaration that the commission was currently underfunded and as a result, unprepared to conduct a credible, effective and constitutional census.

The defendant was asked by the court asked to appear in court and show why the motion of the applicant should not be granted. Justice Ekwo adjourned the matter until May 5 to allow the defendant to respond to the motion.
