Former Heavyweight Champion, Mike Tyson has announced he would come out of retirement to fight Roy Jones Jr. at a Los Angeles exhibition in September. Tyson, 54, was last seen in the boxing ring 15 years ago.
The eight-round exhibition fight will take place on September 12 in Los Angeles, USA.
American-born Roy Jones, held a heavyweight title briefly after moving up through the ranks from middleweight.
While talking to ESPN, Tyson said: “It’s just going to be amazing.”
Tyson dismissed any idea of serious injury for the two fighters, despite heavy concerns over their age. As stiplulated by California rules, they will both wear headgear for the fight.
Tyson said: “We’re both accomplished fighters. We know how to protect ourselves. We’ll be alright.”
Despite the fact that the fight is an exhibition fight, Tyson disclosed it would be a competitive event as “we’re showing our skills and fighting.” He said he wanted to recapture the fearsome form he once exhibited.
He said: “It’s 100% of it looking to be Mike Tyson in the ring. I’ve got one speed — forward.”
