US-based tech firm Meta is set to commence company-wide layoffs this week as it has started the process of hiring machine learning engineers.
According to a memo from Meta’s Head of People, Janelle Gale, cited by Reuters recently, workers who have been pencilled down for sack will soon be notified.
Meanwhile, workers in Germany, France, Italy, and the Netherlands are not affected by these changes “due to local regulations.
Between February 11 and February 18, workers in over a dozen additional nations across Europe, Asia, and Africa will receive their alerts.

Also, the Vice President of Engineering for Monetization, Peng Fan, urged employees to help with a faster hiring process for machine learning engineers and other “business critical” positions in a different memo.
This came days after Meta Chief Executive Officer, Mark Zuckerberg, announced that Meta wanted to make significant changes to Facebook in an effort to increase the platform’s cultural influence among its three billion monthly users.
