HOLLYWOOD, CA – Jim Carrey, who previously announced his retirement from acting in 2022, has revealed he’s reconsidering his decision. The 62-year-old actor now says he plans to take “power rests” rather than a full retirement.
Carrey, known for his roles in films like “The Mask” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” told Us Weekly, “I think I’ve decided not to retire, but to have power rests. I meditate a lot.”
This comes after Carrey, who will reprise his role as Doctor Eggman in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” jokingly said he was returning to acting because he “needed the money.” He also quipped that playing “a genius” was a bit of a stretch.

In 2022, during the promotion of “Sonic the Hedgehog 2,” Carrey had declared his retirement, saying, “I feel like… I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough.”
Carrey, who famously became the first actor to earn $20 million for a single film with “The Cable Guy” in 1996, has also expressed a desire to focus on his “quiet life,” painting, and his “spiritual life.” He previously stated that only a “script written in gold ink” could entice him back to acting.
