The Executive Director of General Business, Leadway Assurance Company Limited, Mrs. Adetola Adegbayi, has said that the Nigerian Insurance Industry Database will reduce fake certificates in the marine sector.
She said this during a training programme organised by Leadway for journalists in Lagos.
Adegbayi observed that a lot of people were still buying fake insurance documents.
She regretted that most people had yet to understand that cargoes coming into Nigeria should be insured, adding that this gave rise to increase in fake insurance certificates in the system.
She said, “Most people are still not aware that cargoes coming into Nigeria have to be insured. People bring in cargoes into Nigeria that are not even insured.”
Adegbayi reiterated the organisation’s commitment to empowering media practitioners to attain world class standard in delivering their profession.
“The training is part of Leadway’s contribution to improving the media sector through regular capacity development training,” she said.
The Chief Executive Officer, Riskshield, Roland Okoro, described the training as a good initiative, adding that it was coming at a time the country was in need of balanced and accurate reporting.
