New Delhi, India – The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu following a cabinet recommendation to dissolve the Lok Sabha, the lower house of parliament. This move is part of the standard procedure ahead of the establishment of a new government.
President Murmu accepted the resignations of Modi and his council of ministers, while requesting that Modi continue to serve as interim prime minister until a new administration is in place, according to an official from the President’s House.
The resignation aligns with the protocol observed before the formation of a new government in India. The Election Commission of India published data early Wednesday, indicating that the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is poised to form the next government.
