The 32-year-old man from Massachusetts has been sentenced to 3 years behind bars for threatening to kill then Barack Obama once United States president, prosecutors declared.
Alex Hernandez on Wednesday was sentenced by federal judge Indira Talwani to thirty seven months, to be served at the same time with a five-to-eight-year term he’s already serving for drugs and firearms offenses.
Federal agents were alerted in 2015 that Hernandez had a plot and wanted to kill Obama and acquire false travel documents to flee the country later, prosecutors said.
In a confidence game within the prison where he was imprisoned, he allegedly told associate secret agent he wished to attack the White House and above all kill Obama and was learning how to build explosives to “create chaos” around government buildings.
Prosecutors quoted Hernandez as saying that he wished to target Obama because “he’s the one that gives the orders.”
He allegedly justified the would-be attack by saying his “brothers” were fighting for “the caliphate in the Middle East” and griped that the United States government was “painting it like they’re the dangerous guys.”
Obama, a Democrat, left office in Jan 2017 after eight years as America’s 1st black president. He was replaced by Donald Trump, the new york billionaire turned Republican politician.
