Governor Bello Matawalle has disclosed that his directive to residents of Zamfara State to acquire firearms is for them to support the efforts of security forces in fighting the ongoing war against insurgency.
While speaking during the inauguration of four special committees at the Government House in Gusau, the State capital, Matawalle said in recent weeks, Zamfara has encountered terrorists attacks in many communities, especially within Bukkuyum, Gusau and Gummi Local Government Areas of the State.

The Executive Governor stated that his administration will keep on exploring strategies to fight the security challenges and the sufferings witnessed by the citizens in the hands of the terrorists. He added that his government recognizes the efforts of the security forces in fighting the prevailing insecurity.
However, he argued that efforts of the armed forces have been mitigated by lack of modern war hardware and adequate manpower, hence, his decision that the residents should acquire weapons to defend themselves against the terrorists.
