In a disturbing case of exploitation, Madison Biluk, a 29-year-old former Winnipeg hockey coach, has pleaded guilty to luring and sexually assaulting a teenage player. The abuse occurred between October 2019 and February 2021, when Biluk was 24-26 years old and the victim was just 15-16.
Prosecutors described the relationship as sexually exploitative, with Biluk using her position of authority to manipulate and groom the young athlete. The abuse began with seemingly innocent actions, such as driving the player to practices and taking her skating. However, it quickly escalated to explicit messages, photographs, and intimate encounters.
Court documents reveal that Biluk knew the relationship was wrong but continued to pursue it, even telling the player to keep it secret. The victim became emotionally attached to Biluk and felt trapped. When she tried to move on, Biluk harassed her through fake social media accounts.
The victim’s mental health suffered significantly, leading to two suicide attempts in February 2023. It wasn’t until she shared her story on TikTok in October 2023 that police became involved.
Investigations uncovered a pattern of concerning behavior by Biluk, including, inappropriate boundaries with underage players, explicit messages and photographs, coercive and manipulative behavior and disregard for professional coaching ethics
Biluk coached hockey from 2019 to 2023, drawing concerns from staff and parents. Despite warnings, she continued to exploit her position.
The victim still struggles with her sexuality, mental health, and ability to form healthy relationships. Biluk’s sentencing is pending.
