Nigeria’s U-20 Women’s football team, the Falconets, defeated European champions, France, 1-0 in their opening match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The Group C game was played at San Jose in Costa Rica and both teams played goalless till the 85th minute.
Flourish Sabastine’s goal won the match for the Falconets when she made a clinical finish five minutes to time from a pass by Mercy Idoko.

As the Falconets make their 10th World Cup appearance, they hope to win the competition this time having played the final twice and the semifinal once.
They will play South Korea in their second group game on Sunday before playing Canada in their final group game.
