The United Kingdom Parliament has fixed a date to debate sanctions against the Nigerian government over the way it handled the unprecedented #EndSARS protests that occurred not too long ago.
It should be recalled that a petition was launched to implement sanctions against the Nigerian Government and officials after military men shot at peaceful protesters in Lekki. The petition was signed by over 220,000 people.
As a result of the petition’s success, members of the UK Parliament have agreed to debate sanctions against the Nigerian government on November 23, 2020. The petition from hundreds of thousands of Nigerians that asked them to intervene in the killings and gross infringement of human rights abuses by security forces and other officials will be considered.
