Two lawyers have recently asked the Federal High Court, Lagos, to order the disbandment of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry put in place by Lagos state government to investigate allegations of brutality by operatives of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
It should be recalled that the Executive Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, inaugurated the eight-man panel on October 19 after the #EndSARS protests in the state.
Sanwo-Olu later directed the panel to probe the October 20 shooting of the protesters by soldiers in Lekki.
The lawyers (Adekunle Augustine and Semion Akogwu) asked the court to disband the team in the court papers on grounds that the state government being a party in a lot of the cases cannot consitute the panel to investigate itself and added that the outcome of the panel would favour the government.
