According to Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Health, a powerful 6.5 magnitude earthquake has hit Afghanistan and resulted in three reported deaths and 44 injuries. The quake caused heavy destruction in different parts of the country, including Badakhshan, Laghman and Takhar provinces.
While talking about the incident, the spokesperson for the Public Health Ministry, disclosed that there could be more casualties as the earthquake was so powerful.
Shafiullah Rahimi, a spokesperson for the disaster mitigation ministry, revealed that the earthquake killed two people in Laghman province. Many of the victims were reportedly killed or injured when the roofs of their houses collapsed.

Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesperson for the government, revealed that the Ministry of Public Health had directed all medical facilities to be prepared to respond to any emergency.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake’s hotspot was located 40 kilometers south-southeast of Jurm district in Badakhshan province in Afghanistan’s Hindukush mountain range, which borders Pakistan and Tajikistan.
The earthquake created panic among the people as many rushed out of their houses in fear.
The authorities however have urged people to be vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent any further damage. The impact of the earthquake is still being assessed, and rescue efforts are in place to help those affected by the disaster.
