As Canada Day approaches fast, Canadian fire chiefs are reminding citizens about the safe use of fireworks.
Ken McMullen, Chief of the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs, has said that people should bear in mind that fireworks are still explosives and are harmful when the conditions are hot and dry.
McMullen also said in a statement that over 700 fire departments nationwide respond to a minimum of one call due to mishandling publicly available fireworks.

The statement came after wildfires sparked in many provinces in 2024, including Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia.
Temperatures in these three provinces, as well as Ontario and Quebec, have hovered around the 30-degree-Celsius mark at times as well, triggering the fires and making Environment Canada issue heat warnings.
According to McMullen, as climate conditions worsen, a national fire administration must be in place to determine the human causes of fire, which includes fireworks.
