I met my fiancé some months ago and he proposed to marry me after a while. My siblings were happy about it as we are all girls but I really don’t want to get married before them because I am the last girl, besides the first born is not even married yet. I’m really feeling uncomfortable about this. What should I do? (Lady).
I’d start by revealing that I got married six years before my older sister, and my children were her little bride and flower girls.
However, through it all, I was praying for my sister and encouraging her, so there was no reason for her to be bitter or envious. Besides, she’s not that kind of a person. What people do and how they react to issues is a matter of who they are.
Why should anyone become disrespectful to his or her older sibling, look down on them or look down on anyone for that matter simply because he/she is married or has something which others don’t have yet? What does anyone have that is not from God?
1 Corinthians 4:7 clearly states, “For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?”
When a prayer is answered or a desire is granted, it’s by God’s mercy. For God said, “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion. So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.” (Romans 9:15-16)
At the right time, God answered my sister’s prayer, and I hope this makes you (dear reader) realise that God does not forget and has not forgotten you. Whatever you are trusting Him for, it will come at the right time.
As I have been pointing out in my books, teachings, and my blog, God wants us to take every matter to Him in prayer for He cares for us.
And so, dear ‘lady’ in this case, it’s a good thing that you’re considering the feelings of your sisters. This shows a good heart but I’d advice you take your feelings and the situation before God in prayer.
If you do, I’m certain God is going to tell you to go ahead and get married because He is in control and will answer your sisters’ prayers too. It may seem a little weird to get married before older siblings but if God is involved, it is not weird. He knows what He’s doing and makes all things beautiful in His time.
It may take some time but your sisters’ turn will come if they don’t give up and they put their trust in God.
