Barbados’ Squash Juniors, both boys’ and girls’ teams have dethroned Guyana in both team
finals in the 39th annual Junior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) in St Vincent and
the Grenadines to emerge 2023 Caribbean Champions.
According to local reports, in the girls’ team final, the Bajan girls made a superb recovery from
two matches down to prevail 3-2. Joanna Atkins, Eboni Atherley and Lenna Hamati came
through for the team winning their respective matches 3-2, 3-0, 3-2 after Sumairaa Suleman at
number one position failed to repeat the same result as in the individuals’ category against
Kirsten Gomes losing 2-3.
Remarkably, three match wins by Atkins, Atherley and Hamati meant the girls secured the Girls
Team Championship Title.
In the same vein, the boys’ team made a spectacular showing defeating the Guyanese team 3-0.
Alex Stewart at number one position clinched a memorable 3-0 victory against Nicolas Verwey
who had earlier beaten Stewart 3-0 in the individuals’ category.

match-ups taking both their opponents down 3-0. With these three wins by Stewart, Shepherd
and Sealy, Barbados was also declared the Boys Team Champions.
In view of capturing both the Girls’ and Boys’ Team Championship Titles, Barbados reclaimed
their overall Championship Title which Guyana had snatched in 2019.
Remarkably, the team returned home with their medal count of 4 golds, 1 silver, 1 bronze in the
Individuals’ category, 2 golds in the Doubles category, 2 golds for Teams Championship Titles
and 1 gold for overall champions.
