The African Union (AU), has condemned the recent coup d’etat in Burkina Faso which displaced President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré’s government.
Mutinous soldiers in the country staged the coup after revolting against the government over corruption issues and its inability to fight the high cost of living.
Also, the soldiers arrested and detained Kabore and highly-ranked members of his cabinet. However, the AU while condemning the coup in a recent statement, called on the army and security forces “to ensure the physical integrity of President Kabore and his government.”

In a statement released by the Chairperson of the AU Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, the African Union called on the national army and security forces of Burkina Faso to adhere strictly to their republican vocation, which is the defence of the internal and external security of the country.
