The African Youth Parliament has declared Adeleke University, Ede in Osun State as the best private university in Africa for year 2017.
The Leader of the AYP, Fred Kweku , who is from Cote ‘d Ivoire, led other executives of the body to present the award to the university in Ede on Monday.
Kweku said one of the criteria used at arriving at the winner of the award was the support for the underprivileged youths to get education.
Kweku said, “ The African Youth Parliament annually organises the Nelson Mandela Leadership Award geared towards the sensitisation of the youths to their roles in Africa’s development and to also award those who have contributed in no small measure towards promoting peace, youth development and education advancement.
“Adeleke University’s role in giving direction and inspiration to the youths in the aspect of maintenance of peace, community service and support to the less privilege is recognised.
“After proper assessment of its achievements in the above-mentioned areas, the leadership of the African Youth Parliament has adjudged Adeleke University the winner of Platinum Award as the Best Private University of the years 2017.”
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ekundayo Alao, lauded the body, saying the founder, Dr. Deji Adeleke , established the university mainly to help in developing the youths especially the underprivileged ones.
He said many students of the varsity were on full scholarships offered by the founder, adding that the university would not stop investing in youth development.
