China has expressed strong opposition to the United Kingdom’s recent sanctions against five Chinese companies allegedly involved with Russia. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce criticized the UK’s decision, stating it disregards the positive trajectory of China-UK economic and trade relations.
A spokesperson from the Ministry of Commerce emphasized that these unilateral sanctions lack a foundation in international law and are not authorized by the United Nations, labeling them as typical “long-arm jurisdiction.”
The spokesperson called on the UK to consider the broader context of bilateral economic and trade cooperation and to immediately reverse its decision to include Chinese firms on the sanctions list.
China reiterated its commitment to protecting the legitimate rights and interests of its enterprises and urged the UK to cease its “erroneous practices” unconditionally.
