US real estate mogul Frank McCourt has indicated interest in buying TikTok due to his serious concerns about the social impact of big internet platforms,.
Reports have it that McCourt who owns the Los Angeles Dodgers and Olympique de Marseille views TikTok as a major chance to change the online environment from what he classifies as damaging effects spread by websites like YouTube and Instagram.
Frank McCourt slammed big tech’s algorithms recently at the Collision tech conference in Toronto, Canada, citing examples like the political unrest in France to demonstrate their polarizing effect and accusing them of increasing social tensions and polarization.
This came after a date in the month of September was scheduled for Tiktok lawsuit, which wants to overturn the recently enacted “Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications” law, which is headed towards outlawing the popular social media platform.
Tiktok want to challenge the law, which was approved earlier in 2024, in favor of designating it as a foreign entity and needing it to sell to an American company or encounter a ban.
According to Reuters, TikTok has been given a hearing schedule to present oral arguments to support its case against the United States over a law that might ban them.
