A six-year-old has died in hospital 10 days after her cousin allegedly raped her in India.
The young girl was sexually assaulted at her family residence in India’s northern Uttar Pradesh state. She was receiving treatment at a hospital in Delhi but gave up the ghost recently.
Her death has triggered heavy protests in India which witnessed her sad family members lay the girl’s body in the street in Sadabad region and requested the arrest of the police personnel over the way he handled the case.
Times of India reported that police arrested the accused, Radharaman Pandey, 30, on the day of the rape.
It was reported that that the girl was left at home to watch over her siblings while her parents were at work. Pandey allegedly assaulted the girl inside her home when her siblings were outside.
A neighbour who heard the girl shout called the girl’s mother before police were invited to the scene.
According to english.jagran.com, Officer Aligarh Muniraj, the Station House Officer of Iglas has been suspended for handling the arrest of the accused with levity.
The news of the girl’s demise came at a time of widespread outcry over the alleged gang-rape and death of a 19-year-old woman. The rape also occurred in Uttar Pradesh state.
