According to a research conducted by Daily Trust, a minimum of 264 suicide cases were recorded over the last four years in Nigeria.

The research which was carried out to mark World Suicide Prevention Day reveals that victims took their lives between January 2017 and August 2020.

This year’s World Suicide Prevention Day is themed “Working Together to Prevent Suicide.”

The research arrived at the number of recorded cases of suicide in Nigeria by reviewing newspaper reports within the period.

The cases excluded a lot of suicide cases that the media did not report.

Nigeria ranks 10th in African countries with rates of suicide and the World Health Organisation (WHO) estimated that close to 800, 000 people commits suicide annually.

This translates tp the fact that at least one person commits suicide every 40 seconds.
